Interview with inimitable Insomnichord

Interview with inimitable Insomnichord

"I really felt that" was just one reaction from a packed out and loudly cheering but obviously stunned dance floor at the famed Water Rats Theatre, recently after Insomnichord played. Something momentous had just happened at a landmark music space. This is where Bob Dylan played his first UK gig in December 1962 and Oasis their first London gig in 1994. This Kings Cross venue has seen debut performances by The Pogues (1982) and cult phsycedelic beats wonders, The Beta Band (1997). A good place to make an impression, then. Not one to hang around when excited, our intrepid music reporter, Monefa was there. As the months go on, it's harder to find a new band that brings something new to the table right? Wrong. April 2018 in The Water Rats, London proved…

At Wembley with Noel Gallagher and his High Flying Birds.

At Wembley with Noel Gallagher and his High Flying Birds.

On Friday 27th April, Noel Gallagher and the High Flying Birds brought their UK headline tour to Wembley Arena, performing an uplifting and even  enriching show that warmed the hearts of the packed out crowd, and proved that as a solo artist (surrounded by his band of esteemed musicians), Noel could hold his own. Although lesser known for his Twitter attacks or controversial quotes in the papers, Noel’s performance dismissed any thoughts that he was the quieter brother. He swaggered about the stage, demonstrating the famous Gallagher arrogance but also the huge amount of talent that goes with it. Looking very slick with styled hair and a black polo shirt, Noel interacted with the audience, encouraging their positive response, jokingly asking them... “What the fuck are you doing here on a Friday night?”  This question was…

485C, The Debut Album.

485C, The Debut Album.

485C release  '485C' Format: CD (29th June 2018) / Digital (27th April 2018) - Fierce Panda Records A sparkling debut of an album (produced by Paul Tipler), plus new live shows. They always say whenever things are going awry, focus on the good. I think it's fair to say right now, a lot of us are looking to music for emotional comfort.  I can guarantee you'll find that within 485C''s debut album.  It's eponymous, which personifies how self-explanatory this band's talent and intellect are. If you want songs that are facetious, with no real meaning, then this is not the band/album for you. But you've come to the right place, if you like to add some philosophy to your twirling. The album begins with the track that they start their live show; 'Kids On the…

SONS Call BS with #NeverAgain video ‘Marco’

SONS Call BS with #NeverAgain video ‘Marco’

Instant hard hitter, 'Marco (What's Going On)' goes straight on to 2018's Essential Rock Tunes list. A raw opus at decibels that deals with huge issues of our time including mental health, it soundtracks a short film by videographer, Graham Cullis. Dynamite double, SONS, have done it again, a freaking boulder sized TUNE. "No things will not be the same again, oh no we’re never the same again, not when Marco is done". This audiovisual unleash comes in an age of the "news" being scripted like a horror movie. Cowards (so called adults) who are inflicting this stress on the world, are hiding behind weapons and lies. Youth is articulately calling their bullshit. Thinkers of all generations are realising that we need to talk about many things to start putting things right. Armed with such inspiration, and…

Spinn EP // Spinn – Review

Spinn EP // Spinn – Review

Sun soaked into the strings of their electric guitars Spinn set the tone for a hazy summer of serene Saturday afternoons with their debut self-titled EP. Sparkling synths and blue-sky melodies wrap you up in a lackadaisical romance with their quintessentially Liverpool dream pop sound. 'She Takes Her Time' is sweet; youthful optimism woven into the lyrics, blissful harmonies leaving you love drunk and dizzy. All pulsing drums and guitar lines like a contagious smile Spinn lift your spirits and leave you reeling before they lower you into the oh so slightly melancholic 'After Dark'. This bittersweet story is heartache bathed in streetlights on the long walk home, strangely soothing its the kind of song you could drunk dance your sorrows away to at the end of the night. The confrontational 'Who You Are'…
