EXCLUSIVE! Velvet Tides release Into Light (Video)

EXCLUSIVE! Velvet Tides release Into Light (Video)

Absolutely loving, INTO LIGHT, the debut single by VELVET TIDES; Probably my favourite release of the year so far. It's melodic guitars and hazy, shoegaze vocals send me off into a liquid sunshine trance.  With an uplifting chorus and post-punk qualities, their sound is reminiscent of bands including The Cure, Ride, The War on Drugs and Slowdive.  Hailing from Birmingham the twenty-two-year olds, formed in 2018 and are taking their local scene by storm.  With accolades from BBC Introducing and Primal Music plus given Record of the Day by This Feeling, Velvet Tides are an exciting new band to watch this year.  Be sure to catch them live at The Actress & Bishop, Birmingham on 17/05/19 for their debut This Feeling show.   F: VelvetTides | IG: @VelvetTides  W: Velvet Tides

Nova Twins Have ‘Hit Girl’ Power

Nova Twins Have ‘Hit Girl’ Power

Britain's futuristic punx, Nova Twins, are becoming a one band, DIY global counter culture on so many levels. Left to right, (photographed by Sanaa Abstrakt), Amy and Georgia's self made new video, 'Hit Girl' fuses their DownloadFest-worthy, heavy sound with the 21st century pop-star potential of Janelle Monae. Nova Twins are one of Britain's most potent prospects. Rap Rocking with Riff Power, they can really cut it live and are equally winning fans on stage and on line. Watch the video for 'Hit Girl'. Armed with guitars, they're not just pretty faces, but a deadly duo of Afropunk'd super heroes.  Head to novatwins.bandcamp.com for your free download! It's a massive club-sounding guitar-licked tune, that drips lead weight attitude and beats. This audiovisual is also a continuation of our 'Equality Is The Future' theme. Not only is the video home made, but they also created…

LIO Track ‘Burn’ – Single Review

LIO Track ‘Burn’ – Single Review

Soaring vocals, heartfelt lyrics, and epic production enrapture the listener with ‘Burn’, the smoulderingly epic new single from LIO, Sheffield’s top ambient alternative 4-piece. After arriving as an exchange student from a small village in the Netherlands called Riethoven, LIO’s songwriter and vocalist Leonie Sloots found her musical home in Sheffield. Starting off as a solo acoustic act, Leonie soon enlisted the help of keyboard player Chris Miles, drummer Richard Blakey, and guitarist Jonathan Wright to launch LIO as a full force, with the release of their debut single ‘Jealousy’ in 2018. One year later and LIO are now ready to release their third and most anthemic single yet with ‘Burn.’ The track opens with a swirling hypnotic synth, conjuring an air of anticipation before launching into the verse. The opening line of “You…

“Shake It” with Feral Five

“Shake It” with Feral Five

When we’re excited, pleased or happy, we like to “high five”. When we break from the norms and recondition stimuli we are called a rebel or feral. What about when you have a powerful duo named Feral Five? Expect music that is going to push you out of your comfort zone, in order to re-tune the senses and open up the possibilities required to reach this level of creativity. A level of creativity, that Kat and Drew execute consistently and effortlessly. At least, they make it seem so easy.  Feral Five are back with their latest self-produced single “Shake It” (Which Zine UK Radio Fave John Kennedy recently premiered on his Radio X show!). They’re not just blending the old with the new, they’re seeking unknown places, techniques and ideas…

Fontaines D.C., ‘Dogrel’ does the double.

Fontaines D.C. - now a Top 10 band in various charts - No. 4 on the Official Irish album chart, No. 9 on the Official UK album chart - were on a double bubble with two sold out London shows in one day: A matinee 'Dogrel', debut album, launch gig and signing session at Rough Trade Records in Shoreditch. Below, one of our musician writers, Monefa, who with Fahima and Roger, were right down the front for the live show. It was a sociable occasion, we bumped into more friends there. Hallo Sahera, Michael, Pat... The band had graced Rough Trade West on Record Store Day the previous weekend. Wednesday 17th April was a parallel dimension episode of Eastenders. An intensely involving event, with quality sound that did the performance…

‘DLP’ by BAIT – Out now, Cool Thing Records

‘DLP’ by BAIT – Out now, Cool Thing Records

For our Darker Ages heavy and harsh, but punchy enough to knock out the hostile environment. Bait landed in 2017 with a hard and hooky presence like Depeche Mode letting off weapons of mass destruction.  2019 is stabbystressed post brexitannia messed shit hole of a Primark garbed apocalypse. Who knew Armageddon would be so compliantly stupid. Greetings from a Hate Island, obsessed by What-Passes-For-Love Island, tits and dragons... "Frustration, anger, high tempers and higher temperature, enough to boil it all away. Understand? Then 'DLP' is for you. BAIT isn't just music, it's ventilation, it's expression through art. We all have a voice and this one speaks from the gut in broken English." Brand new for Spring, 'DLP' (Disney Land Paris) arrives to soundtrack our slide into crapitalism's second world dictatorship.…

CroCroland re-awakens Croydon!

CroCroland re-awakens Croydon!

An overview, of what I witnessed whilst having fun in Croydon. Ten minutes walk from East Croydon station, is The Landsdowne. Not your typical hotel. You won’t find boring small talk in the lobby, or mindless music in the elevator. Instead, a web of creativity is being given a new refreshing layer. On the Saturday 6th April 2019, the hotel began a bubbling hub of loud music, joy, fun and the who’s who of the underground music scene. With lots of new faces, and music enthusiasts.  #AllisWells : No small talk in this lobby! There were three stages, and lots of space to socialise and gander in between sets. Literally, there was something for everyone. I caught Bugeye on the Town Square main stage. Angela Martin is a powerhouse. Not only is she the co-creator and facilitator…

Monefa Meets… The Mysterines.

Monefa Meets… The Mysterines.

There’s no doubt at all, that this island has always been a hot bed for musical talent. From Cornwall, to Bristol, to Essex and even London. I think it’d also be fair to say, that Manchester is considered in some ways the musical epicentre, in terms of how many artists and bands have come out of that one city alone. However, let’s not forget a city less than a couple of hours away that has also cemented this island into the musical hall of fame: Liverpool. Time and time again, the Merseyside have also brought forth knockout music for all genres. Just to name a few off the top of my head: Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Teardrop Explodes, OMD, Echo & the Bunnymen, Dead or Alive, Space, The Coral and…

CroCroLand 6 April: a MOMENT of music heritage

CroCroLand 6 April: a MOMENT of music heritage

Half a dozen things about CroCroLand; one of this year's must-experience moments; This DIY Independent Rock Music Festival underlines a truly creative movement. Croydon's punk heritage is celebrated in a very 21st century way, reflecting modern, diverse Britain / Ireland's rising underground scenes and genre fusions. Dystopian villain ruled times need poetic souled revolt. The impact grows as art finds it's voice in political rant, visuals, DIY chic, youth 4 climate, extinction rebellion and pure pop star graced escapism. An amazing young wives tale highlights that a new-music industrious (r)evolution is highly effective through social inclusion. 0% low blow tokenism. 100% high quality merit. Info/any remaining tickets;  https://crocroland.co.uk/  1/6 : Stage Times - Saturday 6th April. Treasure this entire line up, culture and counter culture, alike. 2/6 - Great sets and cause. LOADS of ART! Local community, youth power, education and community are involved. £1 of every (high…
