Peter Doherty & The Puta Madres O2 Kentish Town Forum – Review

It’ll take more than a hedgehog to stop Mr. Doherty…

Peter Doherty & The Puta Madres took over the O2 Kentish Town Forum last Sunday for a stand out performance, showing Peter at his best.

With a bandage wrapped around one hand, a indicator of the infected hedgehog wound that Peter had suffered with, and a fedora that remained on his head throughout the show, shadowing his face, he delivered a perfect performance, remaining collected and in control the whole way through.

The crowd was a booze filled mass, chanting their love for Peter Doherty and dancing around the room, and as popular as the new album is, it was clear that they were going particularly mad for the old favourites such as, ‘Last Of The English Roses’ and ‘Fuck Forever’, (in particular, the open notes of Fuck Forever had people running from the back of the room into the crowd to sing their hearts out).

Introducing guitarist and singer Jack Jones as ‘the great guitarist in the world’ it wasn’t hard to notice the bond and charisma between Jack and Peter as they came together to sing, it almost appeared that Peter was Jack’s mentor.

Paradise Is Under Your Nose was a particularly poignant moment in the set, it’s delicate lyrics almost soothing the audience who settled down to sing along as Jack Jones and Peter Doherty sung back and fourth to each other, the music creating a lovely atmosphere throughout the room.

Ending on ‘Albion’, Peter stepped away from the microphone to allow the audience to sing the words, their voices filling the room, showing their love and appreciation for the music and of course the musician.
