Music Festival preview by AP Childs
At the end of this month, TheZineUK is excited to be travelling to the Burgundy region in southern France to experience its very first Garorock Festival. The symbol of this year, the 23rd edition of Garorock, is a winged horse – we believe that implies a little bit of magic might well be on offer.
Situated on La Plaine De La Filhole near to the city of Marmande, Garorock takes place from Thursday 27th June to Sunday 30th June.
Each year features an eclectic line-up from across all genres of the musical spectrum; from Hip Hop to Pop and from Folk to Metal. We do indeed spy a magical line-up which we believe promises something very special.
Here is half a dozen of our own happy choices to wet your whistle.
Blood Red Shoes
Zine favourites, Blood Red Shoes, now armed with a great album that cohorts a fearsome stage act. We will be down the front to witness Laura and Steven rip the Garoclub Deezer Stage a new one on the opening night. Check our recent interview with Blood Red Shoes here:
Therapie TAXI (FR)
A promising electro-pop act from Paris who first came to this writer’s attention when performing at Rock en Seine a couple of summer’s ago. Check out recent video single “J’en ai marre”, and it is easy to see why the success of this enigmatic combo is sure to rise higher than a certain Parisian tower.
La Dispute (USA)
Now veterans of the scene, this American post-hardcore band from Grand Rapids, Michigan, remain out and about and in celebratory mood since well-received recent album ‘Panorama’ hit us like a tornado made from the colliding spirits of Fugazi and Rollins Band. Without question we will be there.
Christine and the Queens (FR)
The main stage headliner. Top selling albums, French music awards, BRIT Awards and even Vanity Fair’s ranking of the 50 most influential French personalities of the world…ooh la la! Chis pushes on with her fresh androgynous identity since the release of second album, fully on point with her aesthetically pleasing psychological explorations. Irresistible.
Mysterious hooded house producer from Paris who collects credits on numerous remixes, including Jack U ft Diplo and also Scrillex. Currently engaged on the ‘Illegal’ tour, the Sunday night promises to be a techno tear up.
De La Soul (USA)
Hip Hop Gods. Not just the name of their Spring tour with Public Enemy and Wu Tang Clan, but we think a fair enough moniker it its own right to be honest. A group that unashamedly mixed genres such as rock, jazz, disco and afrobeat to create something completely new and original in the rap world. The perfect choice for a final night headliner at a mesmerizingly varied festival like Garorock. One… two… three…
