Live shows are coming up with Rats and Spinn, then they round off supporting The Clause at their long sold out This Feeling extravaganza in Birmingham Academy. It has been an unforgettable year for them.
The Assist are faces on the scenes that youth is creating for itself. A movement that is blossoming, against the surreal “real life” odds. When they’re not having the time of their lives on stage, they’re down the front at gigs, supporting their peers (i.e. at The Magic Garden) gracing festival stages, or winning at Soccer Six,
Their new single, ‘I Don’t Care’, caught my attention, and just I had to ask…
“Lads. 2019. WTF?!”
“This years been absolutely massive for us as a band. We’ve played our biggest shows, supported some great new bands and we’ve now got a new single due for release on December 6th.
We had our maddest tour to date as we we’re invited to Russia with The Twang and Riscas over the summer. We played the Ural Music Night in Yekaterinburg on a few stages, the biggest one having around 12,000 die hard music fans watching.
They rarely get British music outside of Moscow and the major cities, so the fans out there will really get behind you and it’s a great place to play. I think they realise that music is sometimes taken for granted, so it’s a massive deal when they get new bands in.
Playing six gigs in five days was a real experience, especially having the Riscas’ boys there with us. Also The Twang are a massive part of our lives so getting to spend some time with them was ace – the stages and venues out there are insane.
We came back and played a homecoming show at The Sunflower Lounge in Birmingham which was one of our favourite gigs there to date. It gave us the chance to almost re-introduce ourselves and we went on to play some great local shows with some of our heroes such as nineties legends The Bluetones.
Alongside these gigs we also played with The Novus – which deserves an honourable mention.
A true D.I.Y. gig that was massive for Birmingham.
They took over a warehouse in Digbeth for the day and set everything up themselves; stage, lights, sound etc.
It was incredible to be a part of it, and they packed the place out.
We’ve also hit some milestones with our spotify releases and singles, including 100,000 streams on Wonderful, and our songs being used by premier league club Wolves and (national TV show), Tattoo Fixers.
It feels like things are going our way at the moment. For now, we’re just waiting for our new single ‘I Don’t Care’ to be released. There’s plenty of new music on the way but this track is one we are mega proud of.
There are always so many opinions and outlooks on life, what’s right or wrong so that’s what this new track is about. It’s about doing what you want to do no matter what anyone says.
We also have a few gigs coming up, so we’re just preparing for those, writing music and waiting to see what 2020 can bring for us.
