The Rocking Forecast: 1

This week is another busy one for us #Zeenagers... There are of course too many adventures to list, but our recommended highlights this week are: Tonight, the gorgeously talented Gabi Garbutt and The Illuminations have their album launch for the intriguingly named ‘The Discredited Language of Angels’ at The Slaughtered Lamb. Gabi always gives an electrical performance, like a London Patti Smith only with shampooed hair. To top it off, the album itself is produced by #Zeenage legend Sean Read. Tickets are £8.50 (+85p Booking fee) in advance from WeGotTickets or £10 otd. Info here: https://www.facebook.com/events/375663569818939/ Thursday sees This Feeling and Pirate Studios teaming up to Present their #PirateProdigies - Starring the Elly Bailey recommended Spilt Milk Society, Crystal, Peeping Drexels at The Water Rats. Feel the Joy with MOSES!

Feel the Joy with MOSES!

Today #ZeenageFaves MOSES released JOY and what a way to start a weekend. Just when you thought you’d got Findings out your head.... here’s another earworm from the London based indie band. Teaming up with the unstoppable grandwizard of The Magic Garden, Gavin Monaghan (The Blinders, No Hot Ashes, The Twang...) they’ve produced a song that will no doubt have you tapping your feet on the bus home from work tonight. All together now: “Where is my life?I want the dance, the joy and be happy all the time!” The thing with MOSES, is their music is a Xanax® in a chord sequence. As a Music Ed. that moonlights as a psychologist, it would probably be unethical for me to prescribe Victor and Co. as a cure, but all I’m…

Maybe There’ll Be Blood with The Surrenders

Maybe There’ll Be Blood with The Surrenders

The Surrenders release a brand new single ‘Maybe There’ll be Blood’. An engrossing primal yell set to the backdrop of suburban Britain. Orwellian in its shocking relevance, it musically resonates a neo-garage punk vibe, alluding to a debauched celebration. “It’s an exposé on the uncertainty of modern times” (The Surrenders) With previous singles ‘No Paper’ and ‘Shouldn’t Have to Dig’ being tipped as Radio X Track of the Week (announced during Gordon Smart’s prime-time show), you can bet this band are due to cause a stir with their latest  contribution.  'Maybe There’ll be Blood’ is no less brilliant, with it's desperately lamented lyrics: 'Fingers ain't for painting, they're for sending texts... And who needs a girl when you've got internet sex?"  It's infectious from first listen. You have been warned. Check out 'Maybe There'll Be Blood' here! Punchy, anthemic (and Slade tinted!), this is the sound…

Marianne Faithfull’s Negative Capability

Marianne Faithfull’s Negative Capability

“Negative Capability, that is when man is capable of being in uncertainties. Mysteries, doubts, without any irritable reaching after fact and reason.”  - John Keats Marianne Faithfull is the queen of the female rock n roll dispossessed. Whilst simultaneously legendary and painfully underrated, she has always been an artist that you either get, or don't get. The voice that has been the searing echo throughout rock n roll since the 1960s, when the then fresh faced 'It Girl of counter-culture' presented us with a beautiful, if haunting collection of pop songs including the Stone's As Tears Go By which made her a household name. The re-invented Marianne Faithfull of 1979, however was always the best side of her, appearing like a tempest with powerful, broken mirror shard vocals providing a searing honesty that has been pitifully overlooked in favour of her male…

Stepping into Columbia with… The Blinders.

Stepping into Columbia with… The Blinders.

"These children that come at you with knives, they are your children. You taught them. I didn't teach them. I just tried to help them stand up..." Perhaps once in a generation comes a movement that speaks for its outcasts, those who are undernourished but well read, those who see injustice, but have been fed only on a diet of apathy, and corruption. The blue generation before us were emotionally rescued by bands like the Manic Street Preachers, now, rising from the ashes of Brexitopia, (and the burned out ruins of the indie landfill) we have The Blinders. With Columbia, the highly anticipated debut from the Doncaster trio, we are taken to what they describe as a 'fictional world, based on reality', it's poetry depicts a desperate battle between light and dark, that gradually accepts that both are necessary for survival…
